LOL (Little Old Ladies) Helping Others
We are starting a new group at Zion of Little Old Ladies who will come together to help out others. We have been given many years of life and gained much wisdom from others. Now we want to give back and thank God for the many blessings which we have received. If you want to help others but are not sure where to start come and join other ladies and brainstorm together ways we can make a difference in the world. Please speak with Evelyn Haber who is coordinating this new group.
The first project that the LOL's will be working on is putting together Thanksgiving Baskets along with the youth. What a way to make a difference in the people's lives who are lacking at this holiday time and also to grow in community together across the generations. In January we will brainstorm what ways we can help out in 2010.
If you are a LOL pray about if God is calling you to join with others to help out
our neighbor. If you have any questions you can speak with Evelyn Haber or
Pastor Sonja.
IHN
"Helping Homeless Families Help Themselves."
The Interfaith Hospitality Network is a collaborative effort of churches to provide meals and shelter; a staffed Day Center that gives families an address and phone number while looking for housing and employment, and a close working relationship with local agencies to find housing and, if needed, jobs or job training for better paying jobs.
Zion is one of the numerous Loveland area churches that host families on a regular basis. Currently we host for one week approximately once a quarter. Our Sunday School rooms turn into bedrooms, volunteers cook an evening meal, and hosts provide companionship during the sometimes lonely evenings. Volunteers gain a new awareness of homelessness and become catalysts for change. If you would like to volunteer, contact Zion's coordinators, Kathy Reents or Meg Schreiber, or call the church office.

Helping Hands
Do you have gifts and skills to help out around the house with various small tasks such as carpentry, electrical, painting, or other small fix up jobs?
Some members of our congregation are in need of help with small projects around the house. Helping Homes connects people who have needs with those who have gifts so that we can help each other out.
Are there ways you can help out other members of Zion who are in need? Are you someone who is in need? If so, please give Jim Vosberg a call at 593-2547 or 667-6539.
A Stephen Minister is a trained listener, a caring person, and a Christian friend. A Stephen Minister is NOT a therapist or a gossip or a judge or a know-it-all. Stephen Ministers have spent 50 hours learning how to really listen when someone is hurting and how to offer comfort and hope in times of need.
A Stephen Minster is a lay member of the congregation who has a strong faith, has gone through special training, and follows Jesus' command that we love one another. A Stephen Minister has learned how to minister to another in Christian love.
Loss, grief, a life transition, illness of oneself or of a loved one, and spiritual depletion are just a few of the reasons to reach out and seek a Stephen Minister. Sometimes simply going through a difficult, painful, or confusing time of life will bring someone to ask for a Stephen Minister. There are many different reasons as there are people.
Each week, a Stephen Minister meets one-on-one with you. He or she listens to you, prays for you, prays with you if you wish, encourages you, and comforts you. He or she gives you his or her undivided time and attention and always treats you with dignity and respect. A Stephen Minister is someone who truly cares about you. God is the cure-giver for you. The Stephen Minister is the care-giver.
You may meet for as many weeks as you wish. Some people meet for a few weeks - three or five times. Most meet for a few months or a year or two. A few have had a Stephen Minister for several years.
If you know of someone that is hurting in our community he or she could have a Stephen Minister.
Request a Stephen Minister by contacting either Pastor Sonja or Pastor Joel at 667-1836 or by speaking with any of our Stephen Leaders - Cheryl Gilpatrick, Ginger Klein, or Jaye Lujan. All inquiries are confidential.
