Sunday School (pre-school-12th grade) * Lutheran Forum  *  Pocket Guide to Prayer * Zion Book Group  *  Women of Zion * Wednesday Bible Study

Sunday School

All Sunday School classes meet at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings.

Sunday School encompasses pre-school through high school.  Middle School and High School age groups follow a different format than the pre-school and elementary ages.

Pre-school to 5th grade

There are separate classrooms for Pre-school, grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5

Middle School Sunday School

We are excited to be starting a new format for our Middle School students in grades 6-8.  They will enjoy a forum format with various topics to discuss.  This class is taught by Ronda Buck and Kristen Blundell.

 High School Sunday School

"World's Most Dangerous Bible Study"
Yes!  We have a High School Sunday School.  So many of our youth have come to us with great questions about how their faith relates to their life.  So we have created a place to come and talk about faith and life. One of the things that we will be talking about is our music and how our music relates to our faith.  Bring in your favorite song and we will talk about what the lyrics say about life and faith.  High school Sunday school will be taught by Sharon Olson, Brendan Peach, and Greg Schairer.

Lutheran Forum

Discussions every Sunday morning at 9:45 in the Chapel beginning Sept. 20 !

So what is a "Lutheran Forum"?

- an opportunity to explore the ethical choices that Lutherans face
- a gathering open to anyone every Sunday morning between services
- a conversation selected by and guided by participants
- a dialog based on short readings that don't have to be read to participate
- a lively discussion with humor, honesty, and shared experiences
- never a lecture, video, hidden agendas, or all the answers
- a community focused on provocative readings--emailed each week
- an alternative class--one new topic per week, come whenever you can
- a bunch of Lutherans seeking to act faithfully in a complex world
- a bunch of Lutherans searching and listening--without an expert
- a meaningful way to spend 45 minutes on Sunday Mornings
- a place for talkers to discuss current issues and theological concerns

 Zion Book Group

Zion Book Group is an informal bunch of readers who choose books, read, and discuss one book a month from September to May each year.  Anyone can join the group at any time. We meet on the third Thursday each month at 7:00 p.m. at home of members. We try to select quality literature with a wide range of issues, not just religious concerns. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Sprain.

November:
The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.  This intense, best selling memoir presents a deeply dysfunctional family with a brilliant father who drank, a free-spirit mother who hated anything domestic, and children who learned to care for themselves.

January:
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Prisig.  This classic from the 1970’s presents a father/son motorcycle ride journey across the Midwest, a philosophical journey by a college writing teacher who searches to understand mental illness and Quality.  No knowledge of Zen or Motorcycle is required, but your background in Plato may help.

February:  The Zookeeper’s Wife: A War Story by Diane Ackerman.  This New York Times bestseller tells the true story of Polish Zookeepers who manage to save over three hundred people from the Nazis.

Pocket Guide to Prayer

October 7 – November 18, Wednesdays, 6:00 - 6:45

Prayer is central to our relationship with God. It is through prayer that we talk with God. Yet, so often we feel we just don’t know how to pray. We may feel uncomfortable praying or maybe just never quite seem to find the time.

Come and join Pastor Sonja as we talk about prayer and how to foster a more satisfying prayer life. These conversations are based off of the book Pocket Guide to Prayer by Gary Egeberg. We will cover topics such as listening for God’s voice, answers to prayer, praying with the Bible, resting in God, and praying our pain and suffering.   Each class is independent of other classes so come as you are able.   Join us to begin, enrich, or
renew your prayer life.
